Grant to Brenta and University of Warwick

We are glad to announce that, with the support of National Biofilms Innovation Centre, the Biological Sciences Research Council Impact Acceleration Account has awarded a grant (BB/S506783/1) to University of Warwick Life Sciences (UK) and Brenta S.r.l.(Italy), to investigate mesoporous materials for antibiotic delivery into bacterial biofilms that form in Cystic Fibrosis (CF) lungs. Prof. Freya Harrison’s team of the UoW has develop and validated an ex vivo model of the bacterial biofilms that form in Cystic Fibrosis lungs. Through this collaboration a range of mesoporous nanoparticles based on Brenta’s platform, loaded with clinically-relevant antibiotics will be tested for efficacy and efficiency on biofilms made by Cystic Fibrosis pathogens. If the nanoparticles will facilitate effective drug delivery to biofilm in CF, their translation to clinical use will improve health outcomes and reduce treatment costs. This is an exciting opportunity: stay tuned on the update during 2022.
